Call for Director – Kiwanis North Shore Housing Society (“KNSHS”)

The Board of KNSHS, a not for profit BC society, is seeking applications from diverse, culturally aware and talented North Shore residents to serve on its volunteer Board of Directors.

We seek qualified candidates with skills/experience in any of the following preferred areas (the “Preferred Areas”):

  • Accounting: CPA designation
  • Health Sciences
  • Social/Community Services
  • PR/ Communications

Education and Experience

  • Degree from a recognized university in a field of study relating to the Preferred Areas or an acceptable combination of education, job-related training or experience
  • Experience as a director of a public, private or not for profit organization is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Attributes

  • Develops effective working relationships with Board members and staff
  • Effectively presents and discusses ideas (written and oral), facilitates consensus and manages any conflicts
  • Sound judgment, tact and discretion
  • High ethical standards and integrity
  • Keenly interested in below market housing for seniors, individuals and families on the North Shore

Minimum Time Commitments

  • Attend all scheduled meetings in person or by zoom (typically 10 Board meetings plus AGM annually)
  • Review Board materials prior to each meeting
  • Participate on Board Committees
  • Spend at least 8-10 hours per month on KNSHS matters

With a 75-year history of service on the North Shore, KNSHS is now the primary provider of below market independent seniors’ rental housing in both North and West Vancouver.  We currently operate more than 634 seniors’ apartments in seven buildings, with an eighth building (100+ units) currently under construction in North Vancouver.
